In Home Sleep Studies

Mon, Aug 06, 2012

In Home Sleep Studies are completely changing the way Australians can get a professional diagnosis for sleep disorders.

Diagnostic sleep studies are a necessary prerequisite for the professional treatment of sleep disordered breathing conditions.

And now it's more convenient, more comfortable and less expensive than ever before.

Up until recently, sleep studies (or 'polysomnograms') could only be performed in a hospital-based 'attended' setting, where a sleep scientist or technician would set up the recording equipment and monitor you during the night.  Not surprisingly, many people found it difficult to experience a normal or comfortable night's sleep in this setting.  New portable diagnostic technology means people can now have an in home sleep study, in the comfort and privacy of their own bedroom.

A specially trained sleep therapist will deliver the equipment to your home at a convenient time.

After showing you how to fit the recorder(or fitting it for you) and leaving you to sleep overnight with the recorder, it will be collected and the data downloaded.  A specialist sleep physician will analyse the data (covering heart activity, brain activity, blood oxygen levels, breathing patterns and stoppages, sleeping positions, limb movements and much more) then diagnose your condition and prescribe an appropriate form of treatment.

The cost of the diagnostic sleep study is fully covered by Medicare.  A small clinical administration fee applies, to cover delivery, setup, collection and refurbishment of the diagnostic recorder.

Our in-home sleep study services are now available around Queensland, including small regional areas -- so there's no more lengthy waiting lists, inconvenient dates, and trips or overnight stays in hospitals.
